Twin Oaks Farms
First Annual Hunter Jumper Equestrian Show
Richmond, British Columbia
Thursday, August 9th, 2001

The inaugural Twin Oaks Derby opened today with sunny skies and high expectations from the national, international and local riders and horses who have traveled to British Columbia's newest equestrian facility.

Reaction after the first day of jumping competition was positive - "It's like jumping on a golf course!" were amongst the comments by competitors who have come from across B.C., Alberta, and the Pacific Northwest.

Competition Chairman Trevor Graham was pleased. "I've been so busy just making sure things are going all right. But the few people I've talked - it's all been very positive. Great day, great weather and everybody seems very happy."

Show manager Leslie Arnold agreed that everyone really seemed to enjoy the first day. "All events went well," she said.

Spectators took the opportunity of the relatively quiet activity preceding what promises to be a very busy weekend. Large crowds are expected on the weekend when the major derbies are held. The Richmond Therapeutic Riders Club will be handling the parking, with the entry fee of $5 per car (unlimited number of passengers) going to the Club.

Friday at 4:30 the $10,000 Speed Derby sponsored by Polygon Homes will start off an exciting weekend of competition that will feature many of the best local, national and international riders. The day's competition begins in both derby fields at 9:00 a.m.
