Twin Oaks Farms
First Annual Hunter Jumper Equestrian Show
Richmond, British Columbia
August 9th to 12th, 2001

Inaugural rider for the 1st Annual Twin Oaks Derby

The first annual Twin Oaks Derby Show took place from August 9 to 12 at Canada's Twin Oaks Farm, 13671 No. 3 Road, Richmond, B.C..

The Derby featured some 200 jumpers, including up-and-comers in addition to the internationally acclaimed. Among the entries were local champion riders Ashley and Chelsea Cavanaugh, Megan Semple and legendary Irish rider Eddie Macken.

The Derby presented a number of challenges for both horse and rider as they attempted to clear a series of natural obstacles such as stone walls and dykes.

Twin Oaks Farm has been in operation for less than a year and is the lifelong dream of Laurie Cavanaugh and her family. The Richmond facility includes an elite team of trainers headed by partner Trevor Graham and the likes of Olympic medalist Mark Laskin, Gary Brewster and Cari Furze.

Asked what he wants Twin Oaks reputation to be, Graham said, "We want this place to be known for its open door. It's not just directed at those who train here. This is to benefit horse people in general."

There were several special classes including the $2,500 Children's Derby sponsored by Mac & Jac; $2,500 Adult Amateur Derby sponsored by DaMincci; $5,000 Junior Amateur Derby sponsored by Sports Turf; $10,000 1.30M Speed Derby sponsored by Polygon Homes; $30,000 Twin Oaks Derby sponsored by Progressive Construction Ltd.
